Archive for November, 2011

I went to a dark-sky site last weekend for an overnight stargazing with fellow astro-enthusiasts from the University of the Philippines Astronomical Society (UP Astrosoc) and the Astronomical League of the Philippines (ALP). Weather did not cooperate as we were clouded out. No deep-sky images captured, but it was fun! Smiley Looking forward to the next star party!

When in opposition, the 4 bright Jovian satellites may cross the disc of its parent planet in an event called transit. The satellite (white dot) is usually followed by the shadow (black dot) it casts on Jupiter. In this photo, Io is already exiting, with its shadow still on the disc of the planet. Sky-Watcher Equinox 100 ED apochromatic refractor

The Sky-Watcher Equinox 100 ED apochromatic refractor will now serve as my main telescope, both for visual and for astrophotography use. The Sky-Watcher brand is a product line under the telescope company Celestron. This scope is an OTA-only package and does not include a mount and a tripod. The key features of the telescope is described here.
