M8 Lagoon Nebula and the Open Cluster NGC 6530 April 6, 2012

M8, the Lagoon Nebula, is a cloud of ionized hydrogen gas some 50 light-years in diameter, located about 5000 light-years away. It is a region in space where new stars form.
