Images of the asteroid 2012 DA14 during its closest approach earlier today, captured from Quezon City, Philippines, taken with a Canon 450D DSLR, 50 mm f/1.8 lens (set to f/1.8), ISO 1600, 6 seconds exposure.

    It was already on it’s way out when I caught it, that’s Phi Leonis, the brightest star in the frame in constellation of Leo.

      • Thanks. I basically used the settings you suggested. 50mm, f/1.8, ISO 1800, but used 20s exposure. My shots taken about the time of the closest approach yielded no results as I was shooting blindly. It was only after reviewing the images after taking a series of shots that I was able to confirm success, hehe. Thanks, I’ll wait for updates. I’m also looking forward to the sun grazing ISON comet on November.

      • You have just captured the passage of the biggest space object to get so close to the Earth since our astronomers began tracking near-earth asteroids! Visit this blog every once in a while to learn about current space-happenings, and yes, stay tuned for ISON, I’d be providing shooting instructions as well :)
