UP AstroSoc celebrates 20th NAW

UP AstroSoc prepared a line-up of activities geared towards the organization’s objective of being able to enhance the awareness, interests, knowledge, and understanding of astronomy among students and the general public. The three main “star”-studded events that would be on February 23, 2013 are Big Bang, Take Off, and the Teachers’ Seminar. For more information, click here.

Stargazing session with members and aspiring applicants of the University of the Philippines Astronomical Society at the PAGASA Astronomical Observatory in UP Diliman

Last night’s stargazing activity highlights the Astro-Imaging Group’s first imaging session for 2013, and the field observation and hands-on astrophotography work of aspiring applicants of the organization. UP AstroSoc members demonstrate to the aspiring applicants of the organization how to assemble and point a telescope to Albireo, a double star in the constellation Cygnus, in preparation for their telescope practical exam. Knowing how to operate a telescope is a key requirement in joining the UP AstroSoc.

Stargazing with Students at Pampanga High School

UP AstroSoc’s Lakbay Langit at Pampanga High School

This stargazing activity is part of the Lakbay Langit event of UP Astronomical Society last February 4-5, 2012. More than 100 first year students participated in this event. It always bring joy observing the reactions of students upon seeing the planets, particularly Saturn, for the first time.
